Welcome to IEA Saint-Louis in Senegal

IEA invites you to the dynamic urban city of Saint-Louis that sits 279 km to the north of Dakar. Novelist Ousmane Socé Diop says this three-hundred-year-old city of Saint-Louis in Senegal is recognizably “the centre of Senegalese elegance and taste”. A visit to Saint-Louis in Senegal takes you into a very dynamic universe of culture with a picturesque and calm side perfect for writing and research retreats.
IEA Saint-Louis’s creed is to be a centre of excellence for rethinking Africa and the world. This commitment comes from the spirit in Senegal’s new policy for higher education and research, a policy adopted on 13th August 2013 to leverage socio-economic development and be a factor for Africa’s integration.

This is why IEA Saint-Louis in Senegal is inviting you to be an active player in this academic venture to help reposition Africa in the world by mobilizing the intelligentsia in a fruitful and critical dialogue with other thinkers in the world.

IEA Saint-Louis welcomes and encourages you to be innovative and creative in your efforts to understand Africa. Come with new concepts and theoretical approaches that suit the realities in African communities. Be daring as you contribute with the research community, in the words of historian Joseph Ki Zerbo, to “weave the mat on which African intellectuals must sit” to think Africa and the world.

More so, you will be contributing to achieve the goal of Professor Cheikh Anta Diop, after whom the Dakar University is named, which is: “Africa can once again become a centre for scientific initiatives and decisions instead of thinking she is doomed to sit on the backburner as the developed countries’ terrain for economic expansion”.

Lastly, joining IEA Saint-Louis in Senegal opens the doors for partnership with Gaston Berger University and other cultural stakeholders to strengthen the city of Saint Louis’ influence as a centre of excellence for research and education in Africa.
